The Devoll Hydropower Project is developed under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

The CDM is the Kyoto Protocol mechanism to assist developing countries in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by supporting the development of renewable energy production.

CDM means:

  • Supporting projects which help to combat climate change
  • “Green” energy production
  • Less CO2 in the electricity production
  • Internal and local ecological and social rules and regulations have to be complied
  • CDM project is validated by an independent entity (third party)
  • CDM project has to be registered by UNFCCC
  • CDM project has to be approved by the Albanian Designated National Authority (DNA)

The CDM in Devoll Project ensures compliance with international and national rules and with sustainability standards.
